Back in August 2021, we got our hands on the 13.5-inch Framework Laptop and were pretty impressed. Fast forward to 2023, and we were even more blown away – it had become one of the top bang-for-your-buck laptops out there. Now, with a larger 16-inch display, the folks at Framework have really upped their game. The new Framework Laptop 16 (starting at $1,399; $2,544 for the model we tested) takes their modular design to the next level with a new GPU module, improved cooling, more customizable ports, and a unique keyboard and touchpad setup that lets you mix and match parts for a truly personalized experience.

While Framework might still be a relatively new player in the laptop scene, this third-generation release proves they're not afraid to push boundaries with their sustainable, customizable, and repairable approach. The big question, though, is whether this ambitious project can meet the demands of users looking for a high-performance desktop replacement or gaming laptop – that's a tough ask. While the Framework 16 just falls short of snagging the Editors' Choice award we gave its predecessor, it's definitely worth a serious look.
